Please note:

Due to Machinery of Government changes under Section 30 of the Public Administration Act (PAA), effective 1 January 2023, your employment will be with the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action. Corporate Services, including payroll, will be provided by the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions while a process for the formal transfer of staff in impacted areas is implemented.

About the position:

The position will support digital transformation primarily concerned with identifying, analysing and integrating orchard traceability data sources into a common inter-operable schema for use by orchardists and apiarists and developing research into credence and provenance traceability systems. The position will design and evaluate traceability applications that harness open-source technologies, applications and services and lead in the delivery of the development of Horticulture traceability systems research, image analysis and associated data and application integration.

The position will also play a lead role in supporting capability development in approaches to infrastructure as a service, platform as a service and software as a service application to support advances in farm management traceability systems. Core knowledge on cloud and hybrid data infrastructure, programming languages (Python, JSON & PHP), application programming integration and connectivity to maximise data insights and business intelligence from traceability trials is critical to the role

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • Tertiary level qualification in Computer Science, Information / Data Management, Mathematics or other data related speciality.
  • Demonstrated expertise in, and understanding of, issues relating to science and the use of farms for experimental research purposes and the successful delivery of major innovative research initiatives.

This is a fixed term position available for a period of 2 years. The work location for this position is Bundoora with hybrid work arrangements available.
