Description
The Recreation Programmer is responsible for creating and implementing a wide variety of programming for all demographics in the community. From creating and maintaining programming for the elders programming that is relevant and meaningful, to providing a safe, fun school break for children and creating special community moments for the entire community to partake in, the Recreation Programmer is the project lead in a majority of recreational events hosted by the city. The Recreation Programmer also acts as a liaison with community organizations and provides support to community sport, recreation and leisure groups. The incumbent will assist in budget preparations and access funding for various recreation programs, special projects and student employment programs.
This position requires dependability to work days, evenings, some weekends, as well as, being on call when required. This position may be subject to a shift rotation between day and night shifts.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Minimum two years’ experience working in a recreational setting
- Proven leadership skills
- Valid CPR and First Aid certifications
- Class 5 Driver’s License
- Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills
- Strong computer skills
- Effective communication skills both orally and in writing
The following are consider definite assets:
College degree in Recreation or directly related field, two years’ supervisory experience, ASSIST (Suicide prevention training), High Five training, safe food handling training, and the ability to speak and write in both English and Inuktitut.
Equivalencies that include a combination of education, knowledge, skills and abilities to formal education may be considered.
Due to the nature of this position, a satisfactory Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check are required of this position, as well as a TB test.
