Ranga Auaha Ako | Learning & Teaching Design Team is an important part of the University’s strategy to assist teaching staff across Faculties to adopt well-designed curricula that supports the achievement of the University’s Graduate Profile and is commensurate with programmes delivered in a research-intensive, civic university of international standing. The objective of Ranga Auaha Ako is to provide strong and scalable learning design support that can be flexibly deployed across the University to implement strategic initiatives that enhance the learning experience for as many University of Auckland students as possible. Ranga Auaha Ako primarily delivers learning design support, which includes support for course and programme development, design and review. It also provides specialist support for the development of learning activities and the creation of pedagogically sound digital (or other) resources to support these.

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

We are on the lookout for a Learning Designer to join our team! The key responsibilities of this role are to enable, promote and support high-quality teaching with learning design expertise and the use of related technologies to develop and enhance programmes, as required by the Ranga Auaha Ako. You will also identify and disseminate innovative uses of online, mobile and new media technologies aligned with best practice approaches to teaching and learning and develop high-quality supporting materials. You will also provide professional development opportunities to encourage and enable staff and students to access and integrate contemporary learning design practice into learning and teaching.

This is a full-time role. 37.5 hours per week on fixed term basis until the end of February 2024. The salary range for this role is $76,200 – $94,100 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.

He kōrero mōu | About you

Our suitable candidate will meet the following criteria:

  • Masters or postgraduate qualifications in learning and teaching or a relevant discipline.
  • Five or more years of professional experience as a Learning Designer, facilitator or teacher in an educational field.
  • Experience in developing and implementing educative processes and systems known to enhance learning and facilitate teaching through technology (i.e., mobile devices, learning management systems, web-based technologies, etc.).
  • Experience in applying sound pedagogical and inclusive practices to technology-enhanced learning and teaching.
  • Experience developing, evaluating, and redesigning face-to-face, fully online, and hybrid/blended courses. In addition, experience in developing instructional design strategies, policies and procedures.
  • Record of positive contributions to the previous work environment and/or within your immediate area/discipline.
  • Evidence of ability to work constructively and effectively in a collaborative, team-based work environment.
  • Evidence of developing high-quality, accessible online learning resources.
  • Project management experience.
  • Learning design skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of trends and best practice in e-learning, pedagogy and learning design.
